State Fish Pier
Gloucester MA
Located on the Coast of New England and in the heart of the Cape Ann region, State fish pier has a rich history as a major fishing port dating back to the 18th century. It used to be recognized as a place for processing seafood with influx of immigrants seeking for employment. Today Gloucester is facing grim realities where the viability of the fishing industry has been in a steady decline due to factors ranging from environmental to global competition.
State pier no longer functions as an operating fishing pier, and it has become a site that is underutilized and displaced from the community. Through intervention of the site with a combination of commercial, retail, institutional, and cultural programming, the project seeks to extend its future success as a mixed-use destination intricately tied to its Harbor. This pier will once again be bustled with public engagement, becoming the economic driver for the city.
