Poetry + Living

Reykjavik Iceland

Poetry and its literature has been inherent in the the life of icelanders. At night, people would gather around the light to read and share the stories. Through poetry, people have identified themselves and shared their ways of being. The aim of the project has been merging poetry and living spatially through creating a new form of housing typology. Hybridizing the two programs has created spaces that are shared, and boundaryless which enables multiple use and reading of the spaces.

A strategic overlap of the two programs have been achieved through first identifying 5 different ways of engaging poetry and 5 living programs, and combining the two in pairs of those that require similar type of spaces. Then, each hybridized programs has been allotted to different section of the building.

Hybridized Living

A portrait of what Rekjavik‘s dwelling is yet to be

The building is designed to experience all different poetry living programs, leading from one to the other through a connected circulation. The full journey is achieved only through encountering all the programs as a whole.

The spaces are composed to bring one through different intensity of emotions, rhythms, and narration to allow for the poets who possess special powers of imagination and expression to build their complete day to day life stories and provide spaces for their imagination to stretch out beyond the walls.
